IFRT Update

The VIth edition of the International Forum for Responsible Tourism (IFRT) will be hosted by the National Museum of Romanian History (NMRH) between 10th and 11th of May 2018. Our second special speaker has been confirmed: the Director General of NMRH, Dr. Ernest Oberländer-Târnoveanu.

About NMRH

The largest history museum in Romania has been opened since 1972, in a building on Calea Victoriei 12. This became the place where the entire Romanian history was put on display in a permanent exhibition in over 49 rooms.

Until now, the National Museum of Romanian History held plenty of memorable exhibitions and major scientific events. Moreover, the museum conducts archaeological research, managing large-scale projects. The building – which is a historical monument itself – harbors objects with historical value, discovered in Romania, from ancient times until now.

About Dr. Ernest Oberländer-Târnoveanu, Director General of NMRH – speaker for IFRT, the VIth edition

Dr. Oberländer-Târnoveanu, Director General of NMRH, stands out due to his preoccupations and outstanding results in managing cultural heritage and museums, cultural projects and research. Furthermore, Dr. Oberländer-Târnoveanu, Doctor of History and certified archaeologist, he is also President of the National Commission of Museums and Collections.

We are deeply honored to have him as guest to the VIth edition of IFRT, event through which we wish to highlight Romania’s values, and for Dr. Oberländer-Târnoveanu’s expertise to be transferred in community’s practices. Moreover, in a special section of the forum, he will articulate and use historical arguments which will contribute to making destinations and places more appealing.

We will soon announce the other speakers’ names, besides the already-confirmed ones: Dr. Harold Goodwin and Dr. Oberländer-Târnoveanu.

Until then, please remember our premise:

Any community is attractive, and tourism becomes a manner of acknowledging its anthropic and natural values. A real experience, not just a product. People with history and stories. Discovery and rediscovery.
